Chemotherapy is a difficult process to go through. Its side effects can last for days or even weeks after an infusion. Because of this, planning is important and can save hassle down the road. Below, we will go over some things to plan for.
• Arrange for a driver: It’s important to have someone who can drive you to and from therapy sessions. This is because side effects can prevent you from driving yourself.
• Have an emergency overnight bag packed: Trips to the emergency room for sudden sickness are not uncommon while on chemo. Keep a bag with the essentials on standby in case a trip is needed.
• Cook meals in advance: Chemotherapy is draining so you might not feel like cooking afterward. Cook healthy meals and store them in the freezer. This way, you only need to thaw them as you go. This also prevents relying on convivence or fast food while recovering. Grocery shopping in advance is a good idea as well.
• Keep a free schedule the day of your session: You can never be sure how you will feel after an infusion. Keep your schedule free in case you need the time to recover at home.
